National Night Out for Safety interupted
Wed, Aug 7th, 2013 12:30:00 pm - Shortly after Company 34 units arrived at Thomas George ParkĀ for Night Out activities an alert was received for truck leaking fuel on I-81. Chief 34 (Fife) went enroute to investigate and determine the level of response needed. After finding nothing on the interstate the driver of the truck was found just off Lockwillow at the entrance to the Ramada Inn by a company 35 fire police unit. The driver had jackknifed on the interstate and then exited onto Mountain Road and then turned onto Lockwillow. Not a big deal had he not torn a hole in his saddle tank. The Chief immediately closed Lockwillow Ave and called for Engine 34 and Utility 34 with Haz Mat containment supplies. Crews worked to dyke and dam access to storm water drains as well as spread oil dry yo the roadway to prevent accidents on the oil slicked roadway. Crews were on scene nearly 3 hours. Thanks to Chief 35 (Payne) for dropping off additional oil dry and flares and also to Company 35 Fire Police for traffic control.
